Everyday Is A Blessing - Christian Devotional Psalm 118

If you're reading this, God has blessed you to live another day. Often, we can take this for granted, especially while we are young, healthy, safe, etc. However, scripture reminds us that we are not guaranteed tomorrow. Proverbs 27:1 puts it this way, "Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring." Only God knows what the future holds, and it's all according to His plan and timing.

This is not intended to fill you with fear, but rather to fill you with joy. Every day we are blessed to live is a new opportunity to love and be loved. What better way to celebrate that gift than through rejoicing!

“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it" (Psalm 118:24, ESV).

For this week, I encourage you to read through Psalm 118. David, writing from a place of danger and desperation, recognized what we often forget in comfort: each day is a gift, not a given. On mountain tops and even in valleys, David praised God for His faithfulness.

In today’s culture, the enemy works to devalue life. He whispers that we’re here by chance, that new life is disposable, and that our worth is found in productivity. But God has a different plan. He loves His creation unconditionally—and every day you wake up, it's because there's a reason that God intended us to live it. We may not know why that is, as it may seem like another day to us, but God knows. He has made you with a purpose, for a purpose.

So shift your perspective from dread of completing another mundane day to a heart full of gratitude. When your eyes open each morning, remember:

"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness" (Lamentations 23:22-23).

Prayer:

Use this as a template, adjusting to what's in your own heart.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for blessing me to wake up and live another day. Thank you for [include anything else you're grateful for...] Forgive me for not valuing the days I have been blessed with. I know that tomorrow is not promised to me, so lead me to walk according to your will, guide my steps down a path of righteousness, and show me how to love as you have. Help me see the gift that today is, and let me rejoice in it.

In Jesus Name,

Amen!

Journal Prompts:

  • How do I usually start my mornings—in dread or gratitude? What would it look like to begin the day rejoicing in God’s goodness?
  • If I truly lived like today was a gift, how would that change how I treat myself, others, or my time?
  • Looking back, where have I recently seen God’s mercy at work in my life, even in the smallest ways?
