"Waiting on God requires the willingness to bear uncertainty, to carry within oneself the unanswered question, lifting the heart to God about it whenever it intrudes upon one's heart."
- Elizabeth Elliot
Most of us (including myself) have a hard time embracing uncertainty with open arms. We as humans tend to want to know the answer and know it now. We naturally fall into a state of trying to control our lives, and sometimes even others' lives. However, when we start to walk with Jesus we'll quickly learn that trying to know everything, and take control only causes us to have anguish, anxiety, and confusion.
However, we don't have to live with these emotions; the ones that prevent us from living the abundant life Jesus wants for us (John 10:10). A life full of joy, peace, and fulfillment through a relationship with Him. Every day His mercies are new (Lamentations 3:22-23) and we have the choice to surrender every aspect of our lives to him and align with Him and what He's doing. In doing so you will be left with moments, seasons, and perhaps a lifetime, of uncertainty. But that's okay because whether we see it now, we should be grateful for uncertainty, appreciating it for the blessing that it is.
How could uncertainty be a blessing?
Uncertainty is a blessing because It requires us to depend on the Father. Our purpose on earth is to love God and build a relationship with Him. Not letting us know everything, leaving things up for Interpretation, and having us surrender everything to Him, requires us to have faith. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Faith is the assurance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.” We grow closer to God when we don’t see everything and have to trust in Him.
There is comfort found in surrendering your life to Jesus and trusting in Him. The Bible tells us that God’s plan (see scriptures below) and timing (Ecclesiastes 3:11) are always perfect. His way is always better and it’s for our good (Romans 8:28).
If you're currently in a season of uncertainty surrender it to the Lord and trust that He will work everything out for your good. May you embrace it with peace and comfort knowing that God will always be with you (Joshua 1:9). He will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6). If you are not currently waiting upon the Lord for answers, then keep this encouragement & scripture written upon your heart so that when the time comes, you can appreciate uncertainty as a blessing.
